UW Habitat

  About Us - Extablished 1993

Habitat for Humanity is an international non-profit organization whose goal is to eliminate substandard housing worldwide. Habitat was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller as an ecumenical housing ministry. The UW-Madison campus chapter of Habitat is non-denominational and we accept members of all faiths.

Campus chapter—A campus chapter is an unincorporated student-run, student-led organization of Habitat for Humanity International that performs four main functions: building, educating, fund raising and advocating.

Affiliate—An affiliate is the incorporated, local, nonprofit Habitat for Humanity organization charged with carrying out Habitat For Humanity International’s (HFHI) mission at the grass-roots level. Affiliates typically have five committees: Family Support, Family Selection, Site Selection, Construction and Development. Our affiliate is Habitat for Humanity of Dane County.

As a campus chapter of Habitat, we try to carry out HFHI's four main goals: to fundraise, to build, to advocate, and to educate others about poverty housing. The UW-Madison chapter of Habitat has been around since 1993. We are currently working on our Eighth student-built house.
